Just Stay Faithful

If your glass is half empty, life is a rollercoaster. If your glass is half full, life is a rollercoaster. If you work in ministry, life is a rollercoaster. We experience some small moments of victory that create victory banners for the church and in a person's life. Of course, we want the fireworks to make a spectacular show. We gravitate towards what looks good in a big way. The Word has something to say about this. I will first mention Zechariah 4:10a. Out of the New Living Translation, it reads, "Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin..." The work of the Lord in our lives may explode in a rush then settle down to the normal wear and tear of spiritual life. Hey, we like what adrenaline does for us. It keeps us hopped up and engaged. It keeps us hopefully expectant. What are we when the hype and drama are quieted? Are we only there for the show?

When your group is massive, you may not notice when some decide to leave for greener pastures. However, when you can count everyone on your hands, the sting cuts deeper. It spikes the muscle. The close hurts hit the bone.

Observing the life of our Jesus, we see the devastating face of ministry. You lead them, protect them, feed them, educate them, heal them, pray for them, then they turn on you one way or another. Why put yourself through that? You position yourself in the firing range because you love them as Christ loves you. Out of your relationship with the Triune God flows this driving force to stay faithful to the particular need even when others move on to something they enjoy more. It hurts, but you just stay faithful. Matthew in chapter 24 tells us, "Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns." We are stewards of the things entrusted to us by God Supreme. We are charged with the responsibility of safeguarding the Lord's assets. Let us do for the glory of God. "Whatever your hands find to do, do with all your strength..." (Ecclesiastes 9:10 CSB). Just stay faithful.
